Look3 Festival: Showcasing and Celebrating the Photographic Image, Charlottesville, VA, June 7–9

The LOOK3 Festival of the Photograph is taking over downtown Charlottesville, Virginia, for three days of peace, love, and photography. LOOK3 will host world-renowned photographers for a full weekend of gallery exhibitions, artist interviews, outdoor projections, book signings, and workshops:

LOOK3 will kick-off with a special presentation from National Geographic underwater photographer David Doubilet, whose iconic images will hang from the trees in Charlottesville. The Downtown Mall will become a self-guided tour of the world’s most fascinating ocean environments. This year LOOK3 is celebrating legendary photographers Stanley Greene, Donna Ferrato, and Alex Webb, who will take the stage to present their life’s work and share the stories behind their photographs. LOOK3 will also present a myriad of other artists during the Master Talks lectures and the Shots and Works outdoor projection events.

Hank Willis Thomas will present work at LOOK3. Thomas was featured in 25 and Under: Photographers which was published by the Center for Documentary Studies. Two former Lange-Taylor Prize winners will also be in attendance at LOOK3. 1997 prize winner Ernesto Bazan will teach a master class in project editing. 1999 prize winner Jason Eskenazi will also present work at the festival.

First announced a year after the Center’s founding at Duke University, the Lange-Taylor Prize was created to encourage collaboration between documentary writers and photographers in the tradition of the acclaimed photographer Dorothea Lange and writer and social scientist Paul Taylor.
