The Center for Documentary Studies is pleased to offer a three-day Continuing Education workshop with photographer Harvey Stein: Documentary Street Photography, September 21–23, 2012. The class will consist of lectures, demonstrations, slide presentations, critiques, and photographic field trips for participants to document their Durham environments and the people who populate them. Topics will include photographing strangers, strategies of approach and interaction, methods of controlling light and exposure, and the best lenses and cameras for street shooting. Students will be encouraged “to participate in the drama of the ordinary,” the longtime International Center of Photography instructor says. An exhibit of Stein’s work, Coney Island 40 Years, is on view in the Kreps Gallery at CDS through October 27.
