“A mesmerizing psychological thriller,” is how Variety describes director Gabriela Cowperthwaite’s Blackfish, the next film in the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival’s Third Friday series. Cowperthwaite’s documentary unravels the contemporary lore of orcas, or “killer whales,” as majestic, friendly giants on the one hand, and vicious killers on the other. Blackfish, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, features never-before-seen footage and riveting interviews with trainers and experts that challenge us to consider our relationship to nature and revealing how little humans have learned from these highly intelligent, enormously sentient fellow mammals. Visit the film’s official site and and view the trailer here.
