CDS Student Work Gains National Recognition

Congratulations are in order to several students and instructors of CDS continuing education programs have gained national recognition this week for their documentary projects.

Lisa Morehousea CDS summer institute star alumni and independent radio journalist, has been awarded an Arts and Culture Excellence in Journalism Award from the Northern California Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists for her ongoing series, California Foodways. The radio and print series documents stories about California and Californians through the lens of food, featuring people and places at the intersection of food, culture, history and economy. SPJ NorCal called California Foodways “a series which goes far beyond the food on our plates, and tells us about the people who put it there.” 

This week, The Atlantic featured a short documentary‬ video produced in Anytown USA, a CDS continuing education course created and taught by Randolph Benson. Clyde’s Place by Anytown, USA student David Puckett, tells the story of Clyde Maness, founder and operator of Maness Pottery and Music Barn, who has been opening the doors to his barn since 1974 for bluegrass gatherings.
