Storymakers: Durham is a collaborative project among producer John Biewen, audio program director at the Center for Documentary Studies and host of CDS’s Scene on Radio podcast; North Carolina Public Radio – WUNCSpiritHouse, Inc., a black women-led arts and organizing group; and the people of Durham, North Carolina. The project is a part of the Localore: Finding America, a public media initiative from the Association of Independents in Radio.

Storymakers: Durham has invited people in one strikingly diverse city to reflect on the forces that unite and divide us—race, class, inequality of opportunity—and to tell stories from their varying perspectives. As part of the project, a group of Durham residents learned the skills of audio production from John Biewen at CDS, and have produced a series of short documentaries for WUNC and Scene on Radio.

On July 14, these stories will be shared live at a community listening event for Storymakers: Durham. The event is free and open to the public..
