Interviews with all five winners of the biennial CDS/Honickman First Book Prize in Photography are available on the prize’s new website; here, 2004 winner Steven B. Smith talks with Maria Morris Hambourg, the founding curator of the Department of Photographs at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, about how the images of Southern California in The Weather and a Place to Live: Photographs of the Suburban West are somewhere between a novel and a poem.

Application information for the sixth biennial CDS/Honickman First Book Prize in Photography competition will be available in January 2012; Deborah Willis will be the judge of the 2012 prize.
